To The Big Sky: Sherman Hemsley Dies at 74

July 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

Famous for speaking his mind and being a professional business man in his most famous role on The Jeffersons Hemsley paved the way for even for more African American actors to play roles of power.
So for that, I salute Mr. Hemsley, even though I don’t agree with several aspects of the role.

Frank Ocean Opens Up About His Sexuality | HotNewHipHop

Frank Ocean Opens Up About His Sexuality | HotNewHipHop.

So what do y’all think about this? Personally, I think it’s good that he feels the need to be him no matter what; now that is something I can stand with. No matter gay or straight I think they’re bigger problems than who someone is sleeping with.

Even though many people would say that traditionally homosexuality is looked down upon in the African community; for us to obtain unity we need to look pass some of our personal differences and see each other as people in the same struggle. This is only if we truly want to move forward…

I wonder how many other “celebrities” are next?

Philly’s Fourth of July Jam on Livestream and Independence Day Discussion

July 4, 2012 in Uncategorized

Philly’s Fourth of July Jam on Livestream.

The Roots, Common and a host of other artist are performing tonight on Livestream at 8pm EDT. This should be some nice listening music at least.

This concert does bring to light the issue of July 4th or “Independence Day”. Do you beleive it’s a holiday that African-Americans should celebrate? Why/why not? I’d love to read your comments below.

Personally, I’m conflicted. I do believe that this is just as much our country as any other group; we’ve built this country on our backs and deserve everything anyone else does. At the same time, the Independence that July 4th signifies is America’s from England; We were still enslaved for almost 100 years after this event. So why do we celebrate it? Do you celebrate Juneteenth? Both? Why/why not?

Support for Detroit’s attorney Krystal Crittendon | City of Detroit | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Support for Detroit’s attorney Krystal Crittendon | City of Detroit | Detroit Free Press | freep.com.

They’re trying to fire Corporate Counsel of Detroit Krystal Crittendon for doing her job! This makes no sense; how do you get fired for doing your job? This can’t be taken lightly.

Mayor Dave Bing is too busy cuddling up to Gov. Snyder to pay attention to what the people need or want. By the mayor not backing Crittendon for doing her job, he has set an expectation for employees to follow him and not the law. If she is within the law, the mayor has a duty to support her in doing her job; even if he disagree with some of her decisions.

We just can’t sellout our cities because when we do, we sellout the residents. When you assume a role that affects so many people (politics, public figures), you should act responsibly and accordingly.
